I LOVED seeing and touching the replica dresses!!! the rest of the museum and gift shop were great. Loved all of it and it should be 5 stars but
1 star off because they have the green and blue dress and they are NOT displayed because they "need mannequins" they were just closed for a couple months this should have been thought about.
2. The staff anything I asked I was redirected to go to the Marietta History museum because it was really cool, but they never even told me why also come on at least TRY!! Also they were all just chatting like .....
So there was no clear signage telling you where to park so I pulled in the driveway and parked next to the building but was told I needed to move even though there was literally almost no one there {one couple other than me at the time). There are placards throughout the museum that were created by the collector for the museum but clearly their English skills are lacking because there are many mistakes on the placards throughout the museum that really need to be corrected so it doesn't look like an uneducated child wrote them. Someone really needs to do a better job of placement and lighting for the displays throughout the museum (there was even a very nice painting just sitting in the floor of the hallway coming in the building). Overall the museum is rather boring not enough to make it worth a special trip for certain. As disappointing as the visit was overall it's clear to see why they have very little traffic that comes through the museum at all. Unless you are already in town and have nothing better to do, do not go out of your way to visit this place or you will be disappointed.
If you are a fan of the movie, you will enjoy. It had a large amount of very cool memorabilia and movie paraphernalia.
This is a small museum, but it is packed full of wonderful items and loads of history! Great collection of movie memorabilia, photographs, autographs, books, and costumes (though some are reproductions, all are beautiful.) We learned so much about Margaret Mitchell and some of the "behind the scenes" of the making of 'Gone With the Wind'. Also a very well-stocked gift shop, and gorgeous gardens outside. Highly recommend:)
We got there late dir to difficultly locating the property, parking was obscure, the employee watched us park in the wrong place then told us when we walked up. Correct Parking WAS NOT marked. When we mentioned that to the not very friendly employee she stated that the signs were probably somewhere under construction debris. My friend came from Louisiana and was excited to see the museum. The encounter certainly did not display any of the southern charm she was expecting. The museum should not be open if you are not ready to see customers.
Absolutely loved this place. It's not huge by any means but plenty to look at and the garden areas are very nice to walk through and admire thee hard work that goes into keeping it looking good. How they open the upstairs up with more attractions. Can't beat it for the price. So if you're in the area stop on in and give it a look. You ain't be disappointed.
Price is right. A lot of stuff I would skip over. Back room with replica dresses was the best. There is an actual dress of Scarlet's sister. If you are in the area checknit out but I wouldn't make a special trip there. I should disclose that I'm not a die hard fan.
People may call it too small but it was perfect for us. We spent about 30 minutes inside. Scarlett's gorgeous dresses, movie premiere programs signed by the actors, original telegrams and letters and also a room dedicated to the novel author herself. Beautiful gardens as well! They also have a nice gift shop and the ladies are very helpful.
